The relational reading

Reality is accessed from inside. There is no outside view from which everything can be seen, no court in which the case can be finally decided. What a subject experiences is reality-within-a-language — the language of the community the subject belongs to, the language of the form of life the subject inhabits.

This is what the seed translates into when taken up on the question of reality. See The seed and Human Reality for the foundational translation.

Nature is the primary witness

The relational reading isn’t a claim imposed on nature. It is what nature shows wherever we look carefully. Every ecosystem is a weave of forms of life, each with its own ordering: what counts as food, threat, resource, mate, territory. The forest floor and the canopy are different worlds to the beings that live in them. The coral reef, the mycorrhizal network, the microbial community in a gut — each a reality held by those who share it.

Harm and benefit are already entangled at this level. Predation, parasitism, decomposition feeding growth — the weave is inseparable from what gets called ethics when it happens among humans. Ethics, on this reading, is not a separate layer laid on top of a neutral nature. It is the community’s reading of the weave it lives inside.

Inside-view is the condition, not the defect

The objection sometimes raised: if reality is accessed from inside, aren’t we trapped in our own frame? Isn’t this a limitation that ought to be overcome?

The objection smuggles in what it wants to deny. To call the inside-view a defect is to measure it against an outside-view — which is precisely the view the seed holds to be unavailable, because access is always relational. There is no other way of thinking. The inside-view is the condition of thought, not a prison to escape from.

Recognising this isn’t resignation. It frees thinking to be about what is actually available — the relational weave that is our reality — rather than chasing a view nowhere available from any position.

Insight, not judgment

The reality section works in this register. It looks at what is. It traces the weave. It asks what can be said about realities, about the communities that hold them, about what happens when realities meet. It does not rule. The work is in noticing, not deciding.
