SPLectrum is a philosophical project that starts from language as the medium where it all happens. What is held in common, we express in a small set of principles — we call them the seed. Central to SPLectrum as a project is equal standing: a pluralism of voices that use interrelated languages, SPLectrum but one voice in this multitude.

You will find that SPLectrum has two faces, like a coin. On one side there is what every voice holds in common; on the other SPLectrum expresses its own voice.

A big part of what we do is trying to distill wisdom from others — hence the large reference library you will find on this site.

This site is not about a finished product, but a process, offering insight into a journey that has just started. This is reflected in the structure of the site.

SPLectrum 101 gives the philosophy in a nutshell, at beginner’s level.

How we write

Sections that don’t mix. Each section keeps to a single concern. The same topic can turn up in several of them, each instance approaching it from a different angle — linked, but kept apart.

Topical pages, not large texts. The aim is one topic per page, without trying to construct a large text spanning multiple pages. The project needs breadth and maturity before that can be attempted.

Getting stuck in

If you want the detail on the structure of the site, it can be found on The 9-Box Homepage.

Or you may want to start by reading the blog. The posts are short pieces that follow the chronology of the research and thoughts of the project.

Or why not start at the foundation, with the Seed section.
