Engineering - The Technology

Engineering Commitments — commitments taken before the architecture is reached. They explain why it has the shape it does.

Third Party Software — external software maintained by third parties. Runtimes, platforms, and standalone modules. Includes bare-for-pear (adaptations of external packages for Bare/Pear).

SPL Software — software we write from the ground up. Modules, components, libraries.

SPL Platform — the core architecture. P2P substrate, Mycelium, and the committed languages that constitute the fabric.

SPL Components — the elementary unit: a data repository with collocated functionality. AVRO-fronted SPL software running on the platform.

SPL Solutions — end-to-end systems assembled from components. A solution is a set of seed nodes — once they’re up, the swarm is ready to join.
